Norwegian: fares, hand baggage and route planning
Norwegian is a low-cost airline focused on Norway, the Nordic countries and European routes. Its former long-haul Dreamliner operation ended in 2021. For a current trip, the practical question is which European flight and fare type gives you the bags and flexibility you need.
Understand the three ticket types
Norwegian’s core fare choices are LowFare, LowFare+ and Flex. LowFare has the lowest starting price but fewer included extras. LowFare+ adds an overhead cabin bag, one checked bag and seat reservation. Flex includes more flexibility and two standard checked bags, subject to the fare rules. The best choice depends on the final price after adding exactly what you need.
| Ticket | Included baggage to check | Good fit when… |
|---|---|---|
| LowFare | One small underseat bag (30 × 40 × 20 cm); larger hand baggage and checked bags are extras. | You can travel with a small bag and have firm dates. |
| LowFare+ | Underseat bag, overhead bag (55 × 40 × 23 cm) and one 23 kg checked bag. The two cabin bags have a combined 10 kg limit. | You need a standard suitcase and want several extras bundled. |
| Flex | Underseat and overhead bags with a combined 15 kg limit, plus two 23 kg checked bags. | Your plans may change or you need more luggage. |

What to compare before booking
Norwegian’s route network is strongest for European travel. Check whether the itinerary is nonstop, seasonal or connects through another airport. The cheapest date may have an inconvenient arrival time.
Add any overhead bag, checked bag and seat choice to the base fare. A LowFare+ bundle can be better value than adding the same items one by one, but compare your exact flight.
LowFare and LowFare+ changes may involve a fee and fare difference. Flex has different refund and change terms. Read the current fare rules before paying for a trip with uncertain dates.
Compare the actual airport, ground transport and total journey time. If you book separate tickets for a connection, allow enough time and understand who is responsible if the first flight is delayed.
Our practical booking checklist
- Use Norwegian’s route map to confirm the destination is served on your dates.
- Measure your underseat bag, including handles and wheels, before choosing LowFare.
- Compare LowFare plus extras with LowFare+ and Flex as complete packages.
- Check the checked-bag size and weight rules for equipment, instruments or other special items.
- Review the fare conditions and the itinerary shown at checkout before paying.
We have not personally tested every Norwegian route or fare. This guide interprets the carrier’s current public rules and explains what to verify for a specific booking.
