Delta Air Lines: what to check before booking

Delta is a common option for journeys within the United States and for trips that connect from a long-haul flight to a domestic leg. Compare the whole route, including any airport change or short connection.

Route and connection

Look at arrival time, connection margin, seat selection and the exact rules attached to the fare displayed at checkout.

What the fare includes

Check the booking screen for seat selection, a checked bag, change rules and refunds. Compare the final price with the same extras on another itinerary.

Baggage rules

Delta permits one carry-on bag and one personal item, but small Delta Connection aircraft may require larger cabin bags to be checked at the gate. The allowance on your exact ticket takes priority over a general guide, especially when another airline operates a segment. Read Delta Air Lines’s official baggage or fare rules before paying and again before departure.

Three checks that save time

  1. Confirm the departure and arrival airports, local times and total journey length.
  2. Identify the operating airline on every segment and check the connection margin.
  3. Add bags and seats to both fares, then compare the final price and change conditions.

Compare another option

For a second itinerary, see our American Airlines guide. You can also compare all airlines side by side before searching current flight prices.

This is a planning guide, not a quote or a promise of a particular allowance or service. Conditions can change by route, ticket and operating carrier.
