When to Visit Prague

🌸 Spring (April–May) — Best Time

Perfect temperatures between 12–20°C, blooming parks, and the city waking up after winter. May is ideal — warm enough for outdoor café terraces without summer crowds. Easter markets in Old Town Square are magical.

💡 Pro Tip

Book accommodations 2–3 months ahead for May and December visits — Prague is incredibly popular for weekend breaks from across Europe. Avoid New Year's Eve unless you love enormous crowds; it's wild but overwhelming.

☀️ Summer (June–August) — Peak Season

Long warm days, outdoor concerts, and river boat trips. But expect crowds on Charles Bridge and at the Castle, and prices at their highest. Beat the rush by visiting major sights before 9am or after 6pm.

🍂 Fall (September–October) — Excellent

Golden foliage, harvest festivals, and noticeably thinner crowds. September still feels like summer with temperatures around 18°C. Prague in autumn light is breathtaking for photography.

❄️ Winter (November–March) — Underrated Gem

Christmas markets (November–December) transform Old Town Square into a fairy tale. January and February are quietest and cheapest. Snow on the castle and Charles Bridge is straight out of a postcard.

What to Eat in Prague

  • Svíčková na smetaně (beef sirloin in cream sauce) — Served with bread dumplings. The ultimate Czech comfort dish. Try it at Lokál.
  • Guláš (beef goulash) — Served with knedlíky (bread dumplings) for soaking up the sauce. Every pub has it, every pub is different.
  • Smažený sýr (fried cheese) — Deep-fried in breadcrumbs. The Czech answer to fast food and absolutely addictive.
  • Trdelník (chimney cake) — Hollow pastry rolled in cinnamon sugar. Tourist trap version vs. real bakery version — always choose the bakery.
  • Pilsner Urquell (Czech lager) — The original pilsner, born in Bohemia. A half-liter costs around €1.50–€2.50 in local pubs.
  • Svařák (mulled wine) — Sold at every Christmas market. Warm, spiced, and perfect for cold evenings.

Where to Eat (Local Favorites)

  • Lokál Dlouhááá — Landmark Czech pub in Old Town. Tankové Pilsner Urquell on tap and the best svíčková in the city. Always busy — book ahead.
  • Café Savoy — Stunning Art Nouveau interior in Malá Strana. Best breakfast and cakes in Prague, worth the splurge.
  • Nase Maso — Tiny butcher shop-diner in Vinohrady. Czech charcuterie, tartare, and honest meat dishes. Standing room only.
  • Manifesto Market — Container food market in Žižkov. International street food, craft beer, and a young local crowd. Open spring through fall.
